Mother, Nature
Anchor and hope to rest your head
The bosom of the soft seabed
Will smoothe your hair and soothe your dread
Open the floodgates, sink or swim
Spill and shed a tidal din
Her lap will soak it in
No weeping as you kick away
Treading water, home she’ll stay
Knowing you’ll be back one day
Stronger, softer, lead astray
One night she’ll sink in the abyss
Drowned inside a salty kiss
Cast away, awash, adrift
No open arms to swim into
Unanchored in the murky blue
No man can’t hold that flare for you
But you’ll be grown and you will be
Fattened by the land and sea
Water-wing and floaty-free
Swimming independently
In your dreams you’ll see her, slick
Swimming just beyond your grip
In the milky thick of it
